The ‘Velvet Revolution’ of 1989 paved the way for the transition from post war Communist rule to democracy for what was then Czechoslovakia, while the subsequent ‘Velvet Divorce’ created the independent Czech and Slovak Republics. Today, the Czech Republic is a stable market economy. A recent OECD report forecasts stronger consumer confidence and higher real incomes: a positive sign for foreign exporters targeting this market.
