Trading with Russia

As the world’s largest country, Russia provides immense opportunities for businesses seeking to export to this major economy, which continues to grow and develop at a rapid pace.

However, like most business opportunities, there are also risk factors that need to be considered, which is why Atradius has created a ten-point plan in conjunction with global law firm Clifford Chance, to help guide business when exporting to Russia.

Avoiding court is just one of the pieces of advice covered in the 10 point plan as Russia is yet to sign up to the treaties which govern mutual enforcement of legal judgements, which means that legal procedures could be time consuming, costly and ineffective.

Also, Atradius urges clarity and simplicity in all dealings and advises exporters to steer clear of complex import schemes, using offshore entities that set out to reduce the impact of Russian customs payments and import taxes. These are also coming under increasing scrutiny from Russian authorities and could result in the confiscation of goods.
